Performance Evaluation of Drained Pavement Structures

The presence of excess water in pavement structures causes a progressive211u001eweakening of the structure and subgrade. This produces a greater susceptibility 211u001eto damage of the pavement structure by heavy loading and environmental factors 211u001eand results in decreased pavement serviceability. This research study focused on 211u001epositive drainage of pavement structures which was considered to promote greater 211u001epavement performance. The objectives of the study were to determine: (1) which 211u001efeatures have the greatest impact on pavement serviceability; (2) which features 211u001ewere most effective in draining excess water from the pavement structure; (3) 211u001ewhich features were the most cost effective; and secondarily (4) whether 211u001etransverse joint sealing was effective.
