Health Care Access for Deaf Persons. Abstract, Executive Summary and Final Report

Objectives: To evaluate the healthcare utilization and other health-related211u001echaracteristics of a nationally representative sample of US deaf adults while 211u001eaccounting for the age at onset of hearing loss, a predictor of linguistic and 211u001esociocultural group affiliation. Methods: Cross-sectional analyses of data from 211u001ethe 1990-91 National Health Interview Surveys linked to the National Death Index. 211u001eHealth-related measures of adults 19 years and older deafened before 211u001e(prelingually) and after (postlingually) age 3 years and those of a 211u001erepresentative sample of the general population were compared, adjusting for 211u001esociodemographics and health status.
