Fiber Optic Sensors for Infrastructure Applications

This is an overview of how fiber optic sensors may be used to analyzeinfrastructure systems by sensing strain; temperature, pressure and other key parameters. An introduction to the basics of optical fibers will be presented, followed by an overview of fiber optic sensor technology. Then more detailed discussions on several fiber optic sensor types of particular importance to infrastructure applications will be given, along with examples of actual applications from the literature. This overview is intended to offer a summary of the possibilities for fiber optic technology, as well as indicate where to find relevant information quickly and easily.
