Water Quality in the the Vicinity of Mosquito Creek Lake, Trumbull County, Ohio,211 in Relation of the Chemistry of Locally Occurring Oil, Natural Gas, and Brine

The purpose of this report is to describe current water quality and the chemistry211u001eof oil, natural gas, and brine in the Mosquito Creek Lake area. Additionally, 211u001ethese data are used to characterize water quality in the Mosquito Creek Lake area 211u001ein relation to past oil and natural gas well drilling and production. To meet the 211u001eoverall objective, several goals for this investigation were established. These 211u001einclude (1) collect water-quality and subsurface-gas data from shallow sediments 211u001eand rock that can be used for future evaluation of possible effects of oil and 211u001enatural gas well drilling and production on water supplies, (2) characterize 211u001ecurrent suface-water and ground-water quality as it relates to the natural 211u001eoccurrence and (or) release of oil, gas, and brine (3) sample and chemically 211u001echaracterize the oil in the shallow Mecca Oil Pool, gas from the Berea and 211u001eCussewago Sandstone aquifers, and the oil, gas, and brine from the Clinton 211u001esandstone, and (4) identify areas where aquifers are vulnerable to contamination 211u001efrom surface spills at oil and natural gas drilling and production sites.
