Suggestions for Incorporating Economic Development Considerations

The research project examines the role of TxDOT projects in promoting economic211u001ediversification in Texas. The authors conclude that while good access is a 211u001enecessary condition for diversification, it is not sufficient to assure 211u001ediversification. The role of the transportation network is not dominant in the 211u001edecision process for industrial site location, and thus a model describing how 211u001etransportation investment causes economic diversification is not feasible. 211u001eTherefore, it would be unwise to build highways or make major improvements for 211u001ethe sole purpose of promoting economic diversification.
