Applying Variational Principles in FDTD Antenna Impedance Simulations

The use of variational principles with the FDTD scheme is introduced bysimulating simple dipole antenna structures. Input impedances of the antennas are computed with the variational method and with the direct definition, V(sub in)/I(sub in). The variational method shows clearly a better agreement with the reference results than the commonly use, voltage-current based derivations.
