Machinability of New High Strength Stainless Steels

摘要

In this report the machinability of stainless steels is described based on the211u001emicrostructures of stainless steels and the effects of alloying elements on 211u001emachinability. Machinability is becoming more difficult, when the properties of 211u001enew stainless steels show higher corrosion resistance and strength levels. 211u001eMachinability of HIPped austenitic 316L, duplex 2205, and super duplex Duplok 27 211u001eas well as as-cast 304 stainless steels are studied by drilling tests by TiN-211u001ecoated conventional high speed drills. The machinability of high nitrogen 211u001eaustenitic stainless steels is also tested by turning experiments using solid 211u001ecarbide inserts.
