JEPE-S is a software tool for numerical prediction of sound propagation in211u001eshallow water areas with range-dependent geometry and medium parameters. JEPE-S 211u001eallows the seabed to consist of layered solid materials, and thus enables 211u001erealistic modelling of transmission loss in the water caused by excitation of 211u001eattenuated shear waves in a range-dependent solid bottom. JEPE-S is based on 211u001erecent results on the numerical stability of PE models for layered fluid-solid 211u001emedia in combination with the efficient range-marching techniques developed for 211u001ethe JEPE (Jeltsch Energy-conserving Parabolic Equation) code for range-dependent 211u001elayered all-fluid media. Two PE-models are implemented, a narrow angle and a wide 211u001eangle approximation valid for vertical propagation angles up to 15 and 36 211u001edegrees, respectively. An overview of the theory and methods in JEPE-S is 211u001epresented, together with numerical results from some test runs. These include 211u001ecases with range-independent geometry with accurately known numerical solutions 211u001eas well as solid-seabed variants of a known benchmark example. A user's guide to 211u001eJEPE-S is included as an appendix.
