Pediatric Emergency Medical Services System Development for New Jersey

Emergency medical services for acutely ill or injured children had not beenspecifically addressed in New Jersey. Recognizing that the healthcare needs of such children differ significantly from adults and that care was being provided in a fragmented fashion, the Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) undertook activities to create a statewide, systematic approach to EMS for Children. The primary project goal was to expand existing elements, identify missing elements, and implement new elements in order to construct a system of EMS for Children in New Jersey. In doing so, the EMSC project would act as a liaison to the federal MCHB and other EMSC-funded states, adopting useful materials and transferring knowledge. Ultimately, the goal is to reduce morbility and mortality associated with pediatrics emergencies.
