摘要

A new model is proposed to predict the penetration of rigid projectiles through211u001eductile targets. Despite the restrictions an extension of the model is shown to 211u001eyield reasonable results for 5.56, 7.62 and 12.7 mm AP/HC projectiles against 211u001enormal armor targets. It also seems possible to predict the maximum impact angle 211u001eabove which the projectile will slide on the target surface instead of 211u001epenetrating it. The original purpose of the model is, however, to evaluate spall 211u001edata from the holes that the spall make in thin and ductile witness plates. Large 211u001ecomputer programs for assessment of effect and vulnerability of complex targets 211u001erequire simple analytical models for the calculation of projectile penetration 211u001e(or rather perforation) of the shielding armor as well as for the production of 211u001ethe spall from the projectile and the armor. The model proposed in this paper 211u001eshould be a reasonable starting point.
