On December 1, 1997, a 44-year-old male Fire Chief collapsed while fighting a211u001efire in a two-story brick dwelling of ordinary construction. The Chief was 211u001eassisting a neighboring fire department that was responding to several emergency 211u001ecalls at different locations in their jurisdiction. The Chief was wearing full 211u001eturnout gear, including the face piece of his self-contained breathing apparatus, 211u001eand was participating in physically demanding fire fighting activities when he 211u001ecollapsed. He died shortly after he collapsed. Based upon autopsy results, the 211u001ecause of death was listed as fatal cardiac arrhythmia.
