The work contained in the study documents the fact that deicing wastes containing211u001eethylene glycol (EG) and propylene glycol (PG) may be effectively treated using 211u001ean anaerobic biological process. In the report, the treatment of aircraft deicing 211u001ewastes under anaerobic methanogenic conditions is examined in detail. The major 211u001eproject tasks were: airport sampling to define the characteristics of waste from 211u001edeicing operations; testing of EG and PG degradation using laboratory-scale 211u001ereactors and then by means of serum bottle tests; operation of an anaerobic 211u001efluidized bed reactor (AFBR); and analysis of the energy aspects of anaerobic 211u001eprocesses with cost comparisons to traditional aerobic processes.
