A Device Capability Dataset (DCD) describes the idiosyncratic characteristics of211u001elaboratory equipment, such as the equipment's identify, physical dimensions, 211u001elocation, supported command set, generated events, input-output (I/O) ports, and 211u001eother resources. The DCD concept provides a means for standardizing the 211u001einterfacing of laboratory automation devices in a descriptive rather than a 211u001eprescriptive manner. Within the CAALS (Consortium on Automated Analytical 211u001eLaboratory Systems) modular architecture logical model, this information is used 211u001eby the Task Sequence Controller (TSC) to determine which tasks a Standard 211u001eLaboratory Module (SLM) can perform.
