Observation of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer in the Western and Central Gulf of211 Mexico. First Annual Report

For the Gulf of Mexico, present data sets poorly represent how temperature,211u001ewinds, and mixing height vary vertically over the atmospheric boundary layer and 211u001efree troposphere. Under this project, the MMS shall obtain field observations 211u001edescribing the vertical structure of the marine boundary layer over the Western 211u001eand Central Gulf of Mexico for ongoing and future applications. The agency will 211u001eaccomplish this goal by establishing two (2) boundary layer profiler systems on 211u001eoffshore platforms for approximately three (3) years of data collection. This 211u001eproject will provide a valuable source of information to the National Weather 211u001eService (NWS) operations as the boundary layer observations are collected in real 211u001etime and distributed.
