A multimedia contaminant fate, transport, and exposure model (MMSOILS) was211u001edeveloped by EPA for the human exposure and health risk assessment associated 211u001ewith release of contaminant from hazardous waste sites. The model addresses the 211u001etransport of a chemical in groundwater, surface water, soil erosion, atmosphere, 211u001eand accumulation in the food chain. An application of the MMSOILS has been 211u001econducted at a hyrocarbon contaminated site in a federal facility. Transport 211u001emodules for non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) and gas phase was hardwired in the 211u001eoriginal model to handle the transport processes of spilled and leaked 211u001ehydrocarbon in forms of NAPL and gas through unsaturated soil zone. The site was 211u001econtaminated with JP-4 leaked from underground pipeline in front of the fire 211u001estation in the Coast Guard air field. At the site, At the site, natural 211u001eattenuation with long-term monitoring was adopted as the aletrnative contaminant 211u001emanagement after two years of active remediation. the multimedia model was 211u001eapplied to assess the health risk to the base personnel during the life-span of 211u001ethe remaining contamination.
