Investigation and Development of a Residency-Level Geographic Information System211 to Support Priority Applications

The primary purpose of this study was to identify and develop a set of priority211u001eapplications and data collection methods that could serve as a catalyst for 211u001eimplementing a residency-level GIS. Estimates of time and costs associated with 211u001ethe acquisition and development of each data set were also compiled. The project 211u001ewas limited to the investigation of five priority applications: a guardrail 211u001einventory, sign inventory, drop inventory, railroad-highway grade crossing 211u001einventory, and mowing area calculation method. Because of the volume of data 211u001eneeded for each application and the time needed to investigate alternative 211u001emethods of data collection, the collection area was limited to the interstand 211u001eand/or primary roadways in Albermarle County, Virginia.
