This report on public water system (PWSs) compliance is mandated by the 1996 SDWA211u001eAmendments for the 1996 calendar year. This report finds that the vast majority 211u001eof people received water from systems that reported no violations of maximum 211u001econtaminant levels (MCLs). The document also discusses the activities that EPA 211u001ehas pursued since the passage of the 1996 Amendments in order to ensure all 211u001esystems, particularly small ones, are in compliance with existing drinking water 211u001estandards. Appendix B contains summaries of state annual compliance reports.
