The report continues the work initiated last year with the release in July of211u001e1997 of the Administration's 'A Framework for Global Electronic Commerce.' The 211u001eFramework established a set of principles and policies that together provide a 211u001enew vision for commerce in the digital age--guidelines that strive to protect the 211u001epublic interest while liberating private enterprise from unnecessary regulations 211u001ethat would stifle innovation. The report describes the Administration's progress 211u001ein implementing the strategy and presents five new areas of focus for the future.
