External Cavity Diode Lasers and Their Applications in Optical Metrology

摘要

This thesis covers several important techniques to considerably improve thespectral properties of diode lasers for use in optical precision metrology, high resolution spectroscopy and laser cooling of atoms. Diode lasers with several external cavity configurations have been applied to obtain single frequency operation, narrow linewidth, and improved wavelength tuning range and coverage. The spectral properties of solitary diode lasers are briefly reviewed in Cahpter 2 and optical feedback techniques are presented in chapter 3.
