摘要

Nephrotoxicity, and the associated risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), hasbeen a primary concern for patients undergoing transplantation. Since 1984, 18 studies have been published that reported follow-up of heart transplant patients for at least 1 year and documented the number of patients who subsequently became dialysis dependent (1-18). In all, the 18 studies included 2,017 patients with lengths of follow-up between 1 and 8 years. The mean number of patients per study was 141, with lengths of follow-up betwwen 1 and 8 years. The mean number of patients per study was 141, with a minimum of 41 and a maximum of 430. An average of 5.0% of patients became dialysis dependent (range 0-14.3%). In the study with the longest follow-up, Myers and colleagues estimated the cumulative risk of ESRD at 8 years equal to 9.8%.
