Forested Communities of the Upper Montane in the Central and Southern Sierra211 Nevada

Upper montane forests in the central and southern Sierra Nevada of California211u001ewere classified into 26 plant associations by using information collected from 211u001e0.1-acre circular plants. Within this region, the forested environment including 211u001ethe physiographic setting, geology, soils, and vegetation is described in detail. 211u001eSimulation model is presented for this portion of the Sierra Nevada that refines 211u001ediscussions of climate, and disturbance regimes are described to illustrate the 211u001einteraction between these features of the environment and vegetation in the study 211u001earea. In the classification, plant associations are differentiated by floristic 211u001ecomposition, environmental setting, and measurements of productivity. Differences 211u001ein elevation, aspect, topographic settings, and soil properties generally 211u001edistinguish each plant association described. A detailed description is presented 211u001efor each plant association, including a discussion of the distribution, 211u001eenvironment, vegetation, soils, productivity, coarse woody debris, range, 211u001ewildlife, and management recommendations. A complete species list and tables for 211u001ecross referencing specific characteristics of each association are provided.
