In support of marine monitoring measurement programs, NIST, in cooperation with211u001ethe NOAA National Status and Trends Progrm (NS & T), conducts yearly 211u001einterlaboratory comparison exercises to provide one mechanism for participating 211u001elaboratories/monitoring programs to evaluate the quality and comparability of 211u001etheir performance in measuring selected organic contaminates in environmental 211u001esamples. In this report, results of the 1998 exercises of the NIST/NOAA NS & T 211u001eIntercomparison Exercise Program for Organic Contaminants in the Marine 211u001eEnvironment are described in which selected polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) 211u001econgeners, chlorinated pesticides, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) 211u001ewere determined in the Mussel Tissue Homogenate IX and Marine Sediment VIII 211u001eexercise materials. The analytical methods used by each participating laboratory 211u001ein this performance-based program are summarized.
