Wild Turkey Harvest Management: Biology, Stategies, and Techniques

Our objective is to synthesize what is known about the effects of hunting on wild211u001eturkey populations, and provide models for regulating harvest that provide ample 211u001ehunting opportunity with minimal risk of overharvest. In Section II the authors 211u001ereviewed the biology of the species because they believed harvest management must 211u001ebe based on a thorough understanding of population dynamics. The chapters on life 211u001ehistory and population dynamics describe the critical relationships among life 211u001ehistory, population characteristics, and harvest. These chapters provide the 211u001eecological basis for harvest management. In Section III the authors reviewed the 211u001e3 basic strategies for harvesting wild turkeys. In Section IV the authors 211u001edescribe the techniques that are most useful for obtaining data used to regulate 211u001eharvest.
