Magnetocardiographic (MCG) mapping was performed in 12 middle-aged healthy211u001evolunteers during supine bicycle ergometry. In addition, 123-channel body surface 211u001epotential mapping (BSPM) was carried out during exercise testing with the same 211u001eprotocol. Changes induced by the exercise in MCG and BSPM were quantified with 211u001eparameters based on signal amplitudes and correlations between signal 211u001edistributions at rest and after exercise. MCG maps and parameters were then 211u001ecompared with the corresponding BSPM results. The MCG minimum value in the ST-211u001esegment was found to decrease significantly after stress and a negative MCG 211u001ecomponent was found over the precordium at the T-wave apex. Significantly smaller 211u001eresponse to stress was found in BSPM. The results of this study suggest that the 211u001enegative MCG component at the polarization period of the cardiac cycle should be 211u001econsidered as a normal response to physical exercise.
