Development of an Environmental Decision Support System (EDSS) for Comparing211 Drinking Water Treatment Practices and Associated Health Risks

An Environmental Decision Support System (EDSS) for the analysis of risks from211u001emicrobes and disinfection by-products (DBPs) was developed and tested. The EDSS 211u001eguides the process of reasoning on the relative risks associated with different 211u001etreatment options for water containing microbes, allowing the calculation of a 211u001eweighted composite measure of risk for each treatment option. Intersubject 211u001evariability of exposure factors and risk characteristics, parameter uncertainty, 211u001eand uncertainty due to competing dose-response models can be reflected within the 211u001eanalysis. The resulting EDSS was tested using an example treatment facility (the 211u001eBrown Water Treatment Plant) and found to be feasible assuming the user can 211u001epurchase the underlying Analytica software.
