Severe Weather and Tropical Cyclone Climatology for the NWSO Shreveport,211 Louisiana County and Parish Warning Area

NWSO Shreveport has severe thunderstorm warning responsibility for portions of211u001efour states. This region comprises extreme southeast Oklahoma, southwest 211u001eArkansas, northwest/north-central Louisiana and northeast/east Texas; otherwise 211u001eknown as the four-state region. This study takes into consideration each 211u001eindividual severe weather criterion listed above and address climatological 211u001etrends on an hourly, monthly and annual basis. The total number of severe events 211u001ereflects the trends of the three types of severe weather; tornadoes, damaging 211u001ewinds, and severe hail for the period 1955-1997. To conclude this study, tropical 211u001ecyclone distribution and frequency across the four-state region are also 211u001einvestigated. Likely factors associated with each severe weather aspect are 211u001ediscussed briefly, and this will hopefully lead to more accurate forecasts and 211u001ewarnings.
