An investigation of the structure and mixing properties of buoyant turbulent211u001eflows, typical of those found in the environment of unwated fires, is described. 211u001eThe findings of the research have applications to modeling unwanted fires, to 211u001econtrolling the emission of radiant energy, toxic materials and soot from fires, 211u001eto developing materials test codes for fire properties, and to developing fire 211u001edetectors. The objective of the present investigation was to expermentally 211u001edetermine the mean and turbulent properties of self-preserving buoyant turbulent 211u001eplumes in order to help fill this gap in the literature. The present 211u001einvestigation considered the following three flows, in turn: turbulent round free 211u001eplumes, turbulent plane free plumes and turbulent adiabatic wall plumes.
