The document presents the explanation of significant differences ('ESD') for a211u001eproposed change to the remedy chosen in the Operable Unit 2 Record of Decision 211u001e('OU-2 ROD') for the Lorentz Barrel and Drum Superfund site (the 'Site'). The OU-211u001e2 ROD was dated September 22, 1988, and addressed the remediation and monitoring 211u001eof the shallow groundwater contamination which resulted from activities at the 211u001eSite. Concentrations of organic contaminants at the Site have generally decreased 211u001esince commencement of the groundwater treatment system in 1992. Based on the 211u001ereductions in the concentrations of organic contaminants in the groundwater being 211u001eextracted at the Site, and the inefficiency of the UV/Ox unit in its ability to 211u001ereduce these organic contaminants to the discharge limits, the potentially 211u001eresponsible parties ('PRPs') implementing the groundwater remediation program 211u001ehave requested that EPA approve a change to the current treatment system 211u001einvolving the removal of the UV/Ox treatment unit from the approved treatment 211u001eprogram. The revised treatment system would consists of subjecting the 211u001econtaminated groundwater to the GAC filters, exclusively.
