Adaptive systems should be able to adapt to changes that occur in their operating211u001eenvironment without any external human intervention. Software architectures for 211u001esuch systems should be flexible enough to allow components to change their 211u001epattern of collaboration depending on the environmental changes and goals of the 211u001esystem. A drawback for using object-oriented models for describing software 211u001earchitectures for adaptive systems in their lack of effective means to represent 211u001ecolaborative behavior between objects, if we consider that the capability of a 211u001esystem to be adaptable depends on how objects, as rigid entities, co-operate. 211u001eThis paper describes a co-operative object-oriented architectural style for the 211u001edevelopment of software for adaptive systems. The applicability of the 211u001earchitectural style is demonstrated in terms of a case study of a control system 211u001ethat has to adjust the height of a vehicle's suspension to different road 211u001econditions.
