Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve (El Faro)

The 178-hectare (ha) northeastern tip of Puerto Rico, which is known locally as211u001e'Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve,' is managed by the Puerto Rican 211u001eConservation Trust to protect the area's scenic beauty and to provide 211u001eenvironmental education and research opportunties to the island's residents and 211u001evisitors. The highest point on the terrain is occupied by a lighthouse (El Far). 211u001eConstructed in 1880, El Faro provides a scenic panorama of the northeastern 211u001ecoast, offshore islands, and the Luquillo Mountains. The current state of 211u001eknowledge regarding the environment, i.e., geology, physiography, soils, climate, 211u001eflora, fauna, and past human influence, is summarized in this document as general 211u001einformation for the public and as a basis for further research.
