Field Screening of Water Quality, Bottom Sediment, and Biota Associated with211 Irrigation Drainage in the North Platte Project Area, Nebraska and Wyoming, 1995

The purpose of the investigation was to determine if accumulations of selected211u001etrace elements and/or organochlorine compounds resulting from projects built or 211u001eoperated by agencies of the Department of Interior might have caused harmful 211u001eeffects on fish and wildlife or the suitability of water for other beneficial 211u001euses. Sites on six creeks or drains and one lake that carried drain water from 211u001elands irrigated by the North Platte Project area were selected for the 211u001einvestigation in addition to sites upstream and downstream from the Project area. 211u001eIn the early spring and summer of 1995, samples of surface water, bottom 211u001esediment, fish, and vegetation were collected. Water samples were analyzed for 211u001efield parameters and trace elements; and bottom sediment, fish, and vegetation 211u001esamples were analyzed for trace elements and selected organochlorine compounds.
