This paper concerns experimental investigations of elastic nonlinearity of211u001esubgrade soils under vehicle-induced repeated loading. Two groups of soil samples 211u001e(A8 and HA) were used to conduct triaxial shear tests with repeated loading. 211u001eInvestigations in this paper have included three aspects. First, a new nonlinear 211u001eelastic model is introduced. In this model, shear modulus mu or resilient modulus 211u001eM(sub r), is assumed to be a function of the recoverable strain and the number of 211u001erepetition N. Second, the shear modulus mu or resilient modulus M, introduced in 211u001ethis paper not only allows one to study how shear and resilient modulus change 211u001ewith recoverable strain but also gives an opportunity to investigate effect of 211u001erepetitions on the resilient modulus. An introduced function f(sub 1)(N) relates 211u001ethe shear modulus to the effect of repeated loading. Third, three constitutive 211u001eparameters k(sub 1), k(sub 2), and k(sub 3) are calibrated through results gained 211u001efrom triaxial tests performed in the laboratory. A nonlinear relation between 211u001enormalized deviatoric stress and recoverable strain is discussed. Effect of shear 211u001estress level on the elastic nonlinearity has been studied as well.
