Evaluation of Lightweight Non-Contact Profilers for Use in Quality Assurance211 Specifications on Pavement Smoothness

Various devices that qualify as lightweight profilers were evaluated as part of a211u001eFHWA cooperative partnership with nine states. Connecticut offered the 211u001eopportunity to seven companies to showcase their equipment. Five vendors accepted 211u001ethis offer, four golf-cart type devices and one hitch mounted device were 211u001eevaluated. In addition, ConnDOT ran its two ARAN vehicles and an ARRB TR Walking 211u001eProfiler over three test sections used for the study. All data were collected 211u001ebetween July 7 and October 19, 1999. This report summarizes the data collection 211u001eand analysis efforts. An analysis of repeatability (precision) is included. 211u001eComparisons of the lightweight profilers with the ConnDOT ARAN and the Walking 211u001eProfiler are also made.
