Synthesis and Evaluation of Red Light Running Automated Enforcement Programs in211 the United States

The Federal Highway Administration has identified red light running equipment as211u001ea potential safety countermeasure, and therefore, funded technology demonstration 211u001eand evaluation programs in several municipalities. This report presents the 211u001einformation from those demonstrations as well as information on two other 211u001elocations where red light running programs have been implemented. Information is 211u001eprovided on charges in red light violations and crashes, costs, public acceptance 211u001eand institutional barriers. This report will be of interest to state and local 211u001eagencies who are considering implementation of a red light running program within 211u001etheir jurisdiction.
