HDPE Pipe: Recommended Material Specifications and Design Requirements

This report documents the validation of the single-point notched constant tensile211u001eload (SP-NCTL) test as a measure of slow crack-growth resistance under sustained 211u001eloading of high density polyethylene (HDPE) resins---including compositions 211u001econtaining postconsumer resins (PCR)---that are intended for nonpressure drainage 211u001epipes and the calibration of minimum slow crack-growth resistance requirements 211u001ewith the results of actual experience. The contents of this report are, 211u001etherefore, of immediate interest to both highway and rail transit professionals 211u001eresponsible for designing, installing, inspecting, maintaining, and upgrading 211u001enonpressure drainage pipes. The report is also of interest to those charged with 211u001especifying materials for such pipe, setting budgeting goals, and making policy.
