This report provides a new economic approach and methodology for analyzing211u001enutritional quality change in manufacturers' food product offerings and food 211u001eproducts purchased using a case study of five food product categories in the mid-211u001e1990's. Two approaches were used to analyze nutritional quality change in product 211u001eofferings. The first approach uses a composite nutritional index to measure 211u001echanges. A second approach, nutrient-by-product analysis, was also used to 211u001emeasure quality change. Overall, the nutriton index analysis showed no 211u001esignificant change in the average nutritional quality of products offered for 211u001esale in the five categories.
