摘要

Lakeside daisy (Hymenoxys herbacea) is a federally threatened (listed in 1988)211u001eand Ohio endangered species (listed in 1980). Until recently the species was 211u001eknown to occur naturally only in Ohio and Ontario, however, a small population 211u001ewas discovered in northern Michigan in 1996. There are also introduced and 211u001erestored populations in Ohio and Illinois, respectively. In Ohio, the only 211u001enatural population is restricted to the Marblehead Peninsula adjacent to lake 211u001eErie in Ottawa County. The plant formerly grew in the dry, limestone prairies of 211u001ealvar communities in Marblehead, but these areas have been essentially destroyed 211u001eby limestone quarrying. The species has survived despite the quarry activities 211u001eand now thrives in abandoned areas of the active Lafarge Marblehead Quarry.
