To share the results of this extensive body of research and foster more211u001ewidespread use of scientifically based treatment components, the National 211u001eInstitute on Drug Abuse held the National Conference on Drug Addiction Treatment: 211u001eFrom Research to Practice in April 1998 and prepared this guide. Pages 3-5 of the 211u001eguide summarize basic overarching principles that characterize effective 211u001etreatment. Pages 13-21 elaborate on these principles by providing answers to 211u001efrequently raised questions, as supported by the available scientific literature. 211u001ePages 23-33 describes the types of treatment, and pages 35-47 presents examples 211u001eof scientifically based and tested treatment components.
