The synthesis and optimization of 2,2-dinitro-ethene-1,1-diamine (Fox-7)from two different starting materials 2-metyl-4,6-dihydroxypyrimidine and 2-methoxy-2-methyl- imidazolidinedione. An evaluation about which starting material is the most suitable when it comes to cost and processsecurity. When 2-methyl-4,6-dihydroxypyrimidinen is nitrated an interesting biproduct of dinitromehan is formed and converted to guanidinedinitrometane.
