摘要

Quantum information science (QIS) is a new field of science and technology,211u001ecombining and drawing on the disciplines of physical science, mathematics, 211u001ecomputer science, and engineering. Its aim is to understand how certain 211u001efundamental laws of physics discovered earlier in this century can be harnessed 211u001eto dramatically improve the acquisition, transmission, and processing of 211u001einformation. The exciting scientific opportunities offered by QIS are attracting 211u001ethe interest of a growing community of scientists and technologists, and are 211u001epromoting unprecedented interactions across traditional disciplinary boundaries. 211u001eAdvances in QIS will become increasingly critical to our national competitiveness 211u001ein information technology during the coming century.
