Promoting a Research Agenda: the Impact of Managed Care on Public Health.211 Abstract, Executive Summary, Final Report and Appendices A-C of the Conference

The American Public Health Association (APHA) Task Force on Public Health and211u001eManaged Care organized a 2-day conference in September 2000-jointly funded by 211u001eAPHA and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)-that engaged 211u001epublic health practitioners in a discussion with experts who conduct, use and 211u001efund research resulting in development of a research agenda on the impact of 211u001emanaged care on public health. This conference, first examined recent studies on 211u001ethe impact of managed care on public health. Conferees then identified gaps in 211u001eexisting research, the needs of users of research and the priorities of 211u001eorganizations that fund research as the impetus for developing a broad research 211u001eagenda that addresses public health priorities. Consistent with APHA's mission to 211u001eimprove the public's health and to achieve equity in health status, the 211u001econference focused on vulnerable populations, comprehensiveness of services, and 211u001ethe public health infrastructure.
