Workshop on Varicella Surveillance: Current Status and Future Directions. Final211 Report and Executive Summary. Held in Atlanta, Georgia on March 12-13, 1998

The purpose of this project was to prepare a summary of proceedings and211u001erecommendations of a CDC meeting convened by the National Immunization Program. 211u001eCenters for Disease Control and Prevention to consider requirements for national 211u001esurveillance of varicella and zoster. The meeting was held in Atlanta on March 12-211u001e13, 1998. Representatives of organizations concerned with surveillance of vaccine-211u001epreventable diseases (including NIP, the Nation Center for Infectious Diseases 211u001e(NCID), the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), immunization 211u001eprogram managers, the vaccine manufacturer, and academic scientists), met to: 211u001ediscuss the current status of varicella surveillance in the United States; 211u001edetermine the epidemiologic and laboratory capacities required for effective 211u001esurveillance at the state and national levels; and review proposed immunization 211u001ecoverage and disease reduction goals for varicella.
