This report documents existing economic conditions in the coastal Alabama region211u001eand highlights industry sectors important to the region's economy. This report 211u001ediscusses the interplay among different users of the region's natural resources, 211u001enotable the tourism, fishing and offshore natural gas industries. Data are 211u001epresented that show how the tourism and natural gas industries contribute to the 211u001eeconomic growth of coastal Alabama and the State of Alabama. The recent conflict 211u001ebetween the offshore gas and tourism industries over the use of coastal Alabama 211u001eresources is discussed. Several case studies highlight local area experience 211u001erelative to economic growth, industry coexistence and the importance of the 211u001ecoastal region's natural resources to the local and state economies.
