The Newton County TCE site contains an uncontrolled groundwater plume of211u001etrichloroethylene (TCE) contamination. The source of contamination is believed to 211u001ebe FAG Bearings. From 1973 to 1982, FAG Bearings produced ball bearings using TCE 211u001eas a commercial degreaser. It is alleged that improper disposal and leaks of an 211u001ealleged closed system of TCE led to the contamination of soil at the industrial 211u001esite, the groundwater aquifer, and subsequently, 82 private water wells. Exposure 211u001epathways at the site consist of inhalation of, ingestion of, and dermal contact 211u001ewith TCE-contaminated groundwater and surface water. Because completed and 211u001epotential exposure pathway exist, the Newton County TCE site has been classified 211u001eas a Public Health Hazard.
