Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) techniques are improving mobility for211u001etravelers throughout the nation and world. To date, ITS has largely been the 211u001efocus of professionals who are applying innovative methods to complicated traffic 211u001eand travel information needs in their communities. Consumers utilize these 211u001ebreaking technologies, often with little notice or understanding of the systems 211u001eunderlying their more convenient travel. Despite ITS advances, recent journal 211u001earticles and conferences stress the difficulty of gaining broad support from 211u001eelected officials and the general public for ITS. Developing processes and 211u001ebuilding a support base of elected officials and community planners are important 211u001eto continue ITS deployment and implementation. This document provides a summary 211u001eof an ITS conference focused on the roles of consumers, ITS and Transportation 211u001eprofessionals and community decision makers. This document also includes some of 211u001ethe projects that reflect the range of possibilities utilizing ITS.
