Soil organisms have become a focus of attention for addressing issues of soil211u001equality and health, and ecosystem sustainability. The principal organisms include 211u001ebacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, arthropods, nematodes, worms, insects, and 211u001emammals. In order to provide a 'state-of-the-science' about soil organisms 211u001erelated to management, a symposium was convened to address soil organism 211u001efunctions and processes, management effects on soil organisms and processes, and 211u001edescribe some roles of soil organisms in restoration and applications for land 211u001emanagement. The focus of the symposium was on Pacific Northwest forest and 211u001erangeland ecosystems.
