Report of the Workshop on Selecting Input Distributions for Probabilistic211 Assessments. Held in New York, New York on April 21-22, 1998

In the Summer of 1997, a technical panel, convened under the auspices of the RAF,211u001ebegan work on a framework for selecting input distributions for use in Monte 211u001eCarlo analyses. Applications of this framework to three exposure factors 211u001ehighlighted several issues. These issues resolve into two broad categories: 211u001eissues associated with the representativeness of the data, and issues associated 211u001ewith using the Empirical Distribution Function (or resampling techniques) versus 211u001eusing a theoretical Parametric Distribution Function. These issues were the focal 211u001epoint for discussions at a workshop convened for EPA by Eastern Research Group, 211u001eInc. in April 1998. This report captures the main points and highlights the 211u001ediscussions held during the workshop. The workshop and this report will assist 211u001eEPA in developing a framework and guidance for selecting input distributions for 211u001eprobabilistic risk assessments.
