摘要

Angling pressure, catch and harvest of largemouth bass, bluegill, channel211u001ecatfish, and black crappie at Swan Lake were determined in an effort to assess 211u001ethe impact of common carp on the sport fishery. Electrofishing and trapnetting 211u001ewere used to sample the fish community and determine biomass, population 211u001edensities, fish condition, as well as age and growth of fish. A randomized, 211u001eexpandable creel survey was used to determine angler catch and harvest. After 211u001elake renovation and fish stocking, 1984 through 1986, the water clarity and 211u001efishing improved in Swan Lake. Grass carp and chemical treatments were used to 211u001econtrol excessive rooted aquatic vegetation until 1990. After the common carp 211u001ebiomass expanded, the vegetation was eliminated, fishing use decreased, and 211u001eintolerable densities of bluegreen algae required chemical treatment. Fishing 211u001epressure decreased from 277 hrs/ac in 1992 to 182 hrs/ac in 1996. Largemouth bass 211u001ecatch decreased 90% from 1992 to 1996, while bluegill catch decreased 62% during 211u001ethe same period.
