Greenhouse Gases from Small-Scale Combustion Devices in Developing Countries:211 Charcoal-Making Kilns in Thailand (Report on Phase 3)

The report gives results of measurements of airborne emissions, during typical211u001eoperating conditions, from charcoal-making kilns commonly used in the developing 211u001eworld. The kilns tested were of five types: brick beehive, mud beehive, earth 211u001emound, rice husk mound, and single (oil) drum. Emission factors for the 211u001eproduction of charcoal were determined for: (1) the direct greenhouse gases 211u001ecarbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O); (2) the indirect 211u001egreenhouse gases carbon monoxide (CO) and total non-methane hydrocarbons 211u001e(TNMHCs); and (3) total suspended particulates (TSPs). Charcoal production 211u001eefficiency (yield) and charcoal and fuelwood composition were determined as well.
