摘要

The presence of a large-scale magnetic field in the interior of the sun and other211u001esolar mass stars has a number of potential implications for the rotation of these 211u001estars. Apart from directly influencing the internal rotational velocity through 211u001ethe Lorentz force, a magnetic field may modify other mechanisms for transporting 211u001eangular momentum such as gravity waves or the turbulence associated with various 211u001einstabilities. In turn, how angular momentum is redistributed may have 211u001econsequences which are observable at the surface, not just in terms of the 211u001esurface rotation rate, but also in terms of the abundance's of certain light 211u001eelements, most notably lithium and beryllium. In this dissertation, three of this 211u001eimplications are investigated, namely: how the depletion of light elements may 211u001edistinguish magnetic models for the redistribution of angular momentum from 211u001emodels based on other transport mechanisms; how gravity waves are modified by the 211u001epresence of a strong field; and how a periodically varying external torque 211u001eoperating on timescales of tens of years may give rise to the solar cycle.
